After the massive success of Spiderman: No way Home, Everyone is totally obsessing over Andrew Garfield!
Everyone who saw the movie has HEAVILY praised Andrew’s fantastic performance, and he is FINALLY getting the recognition he deserves.
We honestly couldn’t be happier about this huge surge of popularity Andrew got with the release of this film. However, according to a LOT of tweets, this sentiment is not shared by most of the “og” fans, and maybe the gatekeeping isn’t as invalid as it sounds.
WHY THE GATEKEEPING?
So, to clear up my earlier statement, It isn’t that the “OG” fans, the Andrew fans who have been there for him since 2012, aren’t happy about Andrew’s popularity. It’s just that they are angry and disgusted by the duality of people who quoted Andrew Garfield as the “worst Spiderman” and now claim to have loved him since The Amazing Spiderman 1.
Looking at it from this point of view sure changes the perspective, doesn’t it? Shooting down people’s feelings and expressions just because it qualifies as “gatekeeping” isn’t always right.
We need to consider both sides and EMOTIONS before casting someone as “good” and “bad.”
We need to gatekeep Andrew Garfield because for years people called him the worst Spider-Man they can’t have him now pic.twitter.com/D4oite0yuO

Like you can see, this tweet clearly expresses their anguish. They used to call him hurtful things, and now act as if they loved him ALL ALONG. This is a justifiable reason to be angry.
When you’ve been a fan of someone for so long, you see them through their highs and lows. These people have been there for him through his LOWS, and now when they see new fans joining the fandom just because it’s “trending,” it angers them because these were the people “shitting” on Andrew Garfield when he played Spiderman.
“nobody cares if you liked andrew garfield before nwh” i do. i will gatekeep andrew garfield for the rest of my life… if yall werent there on the battlefields u wont understand……

This tweet right here also expresses this very sentiment. These fans were there for Andrew in the “battlefields” when the Amazing Spiderman 2 was being shot down and claimed to be “the worst spiderman film.”

Now, of course, not all the old fans oppose the influx of new fans. Many users on Twitter tweeted saying that they were happy for Andrew and that they were glad that he’s getting the recognition he deserves.
it went from 10 stans on my timeline to 50k hit tweets i’m gasping

They are more welcoming of new people in the fandom and are grateful they could see Andrew’s fanbase grow from “10 stans on my timeline” to ” 50K hit tweets.”
After reading this im sure, you understand that there is no right or wrong side. We all just have to be more considerate of each other and try to live in harmony because, after all, it’s Andrew Garfield’s world, and we’re all just living in it!
