We all have hobbies from a very young age.We try a legion of things that are usually quite dissimilar when compared to each other.Personally,I’ve tried everything from dance to music to badminton and ended up sticking to only one thing. Some people choose common hobbies and some end up finding delight in the comparatively less popular ones like archery, fencing etc. As we grow older and start having less time to focus on a multitude of things we end up sticking to two- three things we like best and those turn into our definitive hobbies.Hobbies help us explore our hidden potential and sometimes even give us a way to express ourselves,a way that nothing else can give us.
Have you ever had that thought of seriously taking up a hobby but are terrified of what other people will think?Yeah me too. There’s always that fear of uncertainty- just because you may be good at something and you even enjoy doing it there’s always someone you see around you who is so much better at it than you and sometimes that makes you want to give up or quit.Even as teenagers nearing young adults we face a lot of self-doubt among other things contributing to this fear directly or indirectly so it’s important to remind ourselves to never let the fear of not being good enough stop us from continuing to try and enjoy what we love doing. When we pursue things we love there’s always ups and downs, highs and lows along the way.Small wins and small progress should also be considered an up-something that we don’t often do.Sometimes the downs or the lows are quite deep and we think it’s time to let the end sink in but that doesn’t mean the end is actually near-there’s always a way to bounce back if you look at it smartly and try hard enough. And if it’s something you love its worth trying hard enough for.People often let failure or even the fear of failure take over in some way shape or form, creating an edge between themselves and what they love doing.
When you pursue something you love (it doesn’t always have to mean pursuing career wise it could simply be something you want to do and something that feels like a safe space for you)there’s passion involved,it’s the driving force, one that keeps you afloat through it all even after you’ve reached where you want to reach. When you have passion for something, you love it even when you hate it.And that’s what’s important to make a part of your day to day life.Once you actually incorporate it into your life (making time for things that you love)you’ll understand how dull it had been and it’ll feel like a void has been filled and for some people it could be a flame of potential ready to turn into something real has been ignited.
Something that I read somewhere that really stuck with me is this.I like to think of it (for me it being my passion )like the moon’s connection to the tide. Sometimes the moon pulls the tide too high or too low, but at the end of the day they are unconditionally tied together in a bond so unbreakable that it’s practically magic. The moon is me, the moon is you. There are highs and lows that you experience as a result of your actions and it may sometimes lead to undesirable things but that doesn’t mean the high tide will never come back after a low one and the best part is that you get to be the one to bring it back.Believe it or not you are the one controlling the main aspect of it at the end of the day and the unbreakable bond is something you end up creating with the things you love doing. It doesn’t have to be a big thing. For example, it can simply be trying your hand at gardening and maybe setting up and exhibition in the future is that’s what you want to turn it into or just keeping it small and decorating your backyard for yourself because it’s simply something you like spending time on and something you want to do,no one can judge you for it.
To me this is what it means to pursue something you love and whoever’s reading this can have their own meaning and ring to it and that’s the beauty of it.Do what you love!!!! <3
