WHAT EACH DAY OF THE PRIDE MONTH STANDS FOR

Date:

For a long time, our elders have told us that there are two genders: male and female.

But, there are more. In fact, there are more than a hundred genders, and the list keeps on increasing! To celebrate these genders, the month of June is celebrated as Pride month.

“To be yourself is truly a revolutionary act, and I think more and more people should try it because it’s gotten me a pretty cool life.”-Lena Waithe

1st June

It’s the first day of the pride month. And the month starts with the “Gay pride day.” The term Gay is specifically used for a male homosexual. Interestingly, Gay also means jolly, and they totally do justice to the meaning!

2nd June

This day is dedicated to the Lesbian community. The term Lesbian is used for female homosexuals.

Here’s a fun fact, the term is derived from the island of Lesbos, home to Sappho, a poet from 6th Century BC who is well known for her romantic poems dedicated to other females.

Frankly, I wish I were dead

When she left, she wept

a great deal; she said to me, “This parting must be endured Sappho, I go unwillingly

-Sappho

Well, those lines are sad. T-T

3rd June

It is the “Bisexual pride day.” This one is confusing because different people have different meanings. For some, it means being attracted to cisgender(denoting or relating to a person whose sense of personal identity and gender corresponds with their birth sex according to the oxford dictionary.) only. But some of them can be attracted to transgender people ( people whose gender identity is different from the gender they were thought to be at birth.) or non-binaries( people who don’t identify as either male or female).

4th June

Here comes the “Polysexual pride day!” This is confused with pansexual a lot but, there are a ton of differences between them.

Polysexuality means being attracted to multiple genders. But remember one thing, ‘multiple doesn’t mean all.

5th June

It’s the “Pansexual pride day.” They are attracted to all, irrespective of the gender of the other person. And that’s how it’s different from polysexual. They just love everyone;

no one is different for them. Now, isn’t that sweet?

6th June

Here comes the “Omnisexual pride day.” They are attracted to all, but they aren’t like pansexuals. Gender won’t matter much, but they will be aware of it. So don’t mix it up with pansexual!

7th June

It’s the day to celebrate “Ceterosexuality.” The person identified as Ceterosexual is attracted to non-binaries or transgender people. A Ceterosexual person can be called bisexual, and a bisexual person attracted to non-binary or transgender can be called Ceterosexual.

8th June

Well, for any relationship, trust is important. And just like that, for a demisexual person, there must be an emotional bond between them and the other person. Only then will they be attracted to that person.

In honor of them, 8th June is The “Demisexual pride day.”

9th June

“Greysexual pride day.” I’m going to put this in simple words. Greysexuals are rarely attracted to someone sexually, however, it’s NOT impossible. But that doesn’t mean they can’t love someone. They will love a person for different reasons, but sex is not one of them.

10th June

This community is similar to greysexuals.

“Asexuality” is the term here, but there is a difference. These people NEVER have any sexual desire towards anyone, no matter what the gender of the other person is. They CAN be in a relationship, although it can be a little tough.

11th June

“Polyamory day.” Poly- means many, and in Spanish -amour means love. This person is engaged in multiple relationships but don’t jump to conclusions yet! Everyone involved has consented to this. So this doesn’t count as cheating.

12th June

The “Intersex day.” They are a mix between male and female, not character or attitude-wise but genetically.

“Love isn’t a choice. You fall for the person, not their chromosomes.”

-I.W Gregorio

The flag is simple, but I think we can all agree it’s beautiful!

13th June

It’s time to celebrate the transgender community for the next two days. This is “Trans MTF pride day.” MTF means male-to-female. In a much simpler word, they are recognized as male by birth but identify themself as female.

14th June

It’s the second day for the transgender community. But this is for the “Trans FTM” group. They are female by birth but identify themselves as males.

“The transgender community deserves the dignity and respect which most people take for granted.”

-Ed Murray

15th June

The first two weeks of the month have ended. And this is the day for “Agenders.” They don’t identify as any gender. Neither male nor female. Not even between them.

16th June

It’s time to celebrate the “Genderfluid” community. Just like how fluid changes its shape in different containers, these people change their gender. They get to explore a wide variety of genders. They experience something new every day!

Imagine how exciting that must be!

17th June

Here comes the “Trigender pride day.” Again it’s the same as the previous two, but instead of two, they have three identities to switch between.

19th June

This day is for the “Pangender community.” They don’t identify themselves as male or female; instead, they are identified as all genders at once. Please don’t mix it up with genderfluid, though!

For a genderfluid person, their identity isn’t fixed, whereas pangender community have a fixed gender(all of them)

20th June

This one’s interesting. 20th June is for the “Genderqueer.” They identify themselves as neither or a combination of genders.

21st June

A day for the “Demigirls.” This person is partially female regardless of the gender assigned by birth. They are somewhat between female and non-binary. It can also describe a male born who is transfeminine.

However, a tomboy is different from a demi girl.

22nd June

The last week of the month has started. “Demi boy,” a person who partially identifies themselves as male regardless of the gender assigned at birth. It can also describe a female born who is transmale.

23rd June

“Androgyne pride day.” This person doesn’t fit in feminine and masculine roles. Or, this person can be a mixture of male and female (not exactly 50-50, though).

24th June

“Intergender pride day”. They are either between male and female or a mixture of both. However, please Don’t confuse it with intersex!

An intersex person is born with both female and male characters, and on the other hand, intergender is all about gender expression.

25th June

“Nonbinary pride day.” This term was used in the article before too. It means everything that is neither male nor female. This will include agender and androgyne.

26th June

“Questioning.” The word says it all. This group of people is still exploring. They are still unsure or concerned about their identity for personal reasons.

Let’s move on from sexual attractions to just romantic attractions. And also start preparing to bid farewell to this month.

27th June

“Homoromantic.” Focus on the term romantic here. The meaning is the same as homosexuality, but we are talking about being romantically attracted to the same sex.

28th June

“Biromantic.” Again it means being “romantically attracted” to two or more genders.

29th June

“Panromantic” talks about the romantic attraction towards all genders.

30th June

“Aromatic” means no romantic attractions to any gender.

And with that, this amazing month filled with colors and love ends.

History has proved that whenever there’s a change in society, some accept it, but some…there is always someone who is definitely going to rebel even if the change is for good.

“Homophobia is like racism and antisemitism and other forms of bigotry in that it seeks to dehumanize a large group of people to deny their humanity, their dignity, and personhood.”

-Coretta Scott King

This is a serious matter. A few words of hate can cause a lot of destruction. Many start blaming themselves for having a different orientation. They think they are the weird ones. They start hating their true self. And absolutely nothing is worse than this.

“You know, gay, lesbian, bisexual, transgender people are people.”

-Judith Light

Our surroundings are changing rapidly; every day, there is some change in our lives. No matter how big or small the change is, we accept them. So why not accept them too.

We sincerely apologize if any of the above-written information was disrespectful to anyone; please bear with us since we are still learning and educating ourselves.

Feel free to correct us or let us know if you were offended by anything written. We will immediately work on changing that!
