On the 28th of August, 2022 at exactly 2:30pm the Supertech building which was there for nine years was blown up into pieces in a mere five seconds as all of India watched. 912 flats, all demolished. Why? Let’s start right from the beginning, Supertech Limited, a development company located in Noida, began work on the Emerald Court project. Midway through the 2000s, the project was launched. The project called for the construction of 3, 4, and 5 BHK apartments. The project was to be located next to the noida expressway and was supposed to have 14, nine stories towers.

The problem arose as a result of Supertech changing the blueprints, which, by 2012, resulted in a complex with 15 buildings rather than 14. There were now to be 11 stories in each building, as opposed to the previous nine. This additionally included two extra towers which would be 40 stories each, this would also become the cause of a sprawling issue of debate with the residents and Supertech. The green area which was originally planned for the front of the building became the foundation upon which the Twin Towers in the center of the disaster, Ceyane and Apex, would rise. The third revision to the building would extend the twin towers height from 24 to 40 floors. The residents of emerald court took this case of illegal construction up in the Allahabad High Court in 2014. After the court proceedings it was finally concluded in 2021 that the towers had to be demolished due to their illegal construction.

In this essay we’ll be focusing mainly on the effects that the demolishment of the building brought about on flora and fauna and human life. The demolition of these towers caused an entire bubble of dust around the building, hiding all the buildings in sight. The heavy dust particles from this have started or already settled down, but the light air particles will be in the air for weeks, making the air that we breathe almost toxic. The report has also told us that due to these particles the rate of photosynthesis is going to take a fall and the productivity of plants is going to come down with it. This particular area is also home to many birds and mammals and due to this the population is going to suffer a drastic fall. This is also going to affect the squirrels living in this area as they have a respiratory system that is similar to humans and so the particles that are still there are going to have long lasting effects.

Other than that, this is going to have a major impact on the immune system of the residents that are staying in ATS village and Supertech Emerald Court and also the local vendors that are there in the market. This demolishment is already impacting the air that we take in and resulting in toxicity in the human body as well and will slowly weaken the respiratory system as well. We will not be able to do a lot in preventing this, but the Residents Welfare Association has installed a machine that is checking the oxygen rate everyday and is spreading that to the residents to provide them with the correct data.

After the demolishment that took place on the 28th August supertech is planning to create a housing project, the corporation will present a plan to the Noida Development Authority and, if necessary, obtain the RWA of Emerald Court’s approval.”We were allotted 14 acre of land by Noida authority in Noida Sector 93 A for the development of the group housing project. Out of the total land parcel, the twin towers were built on 2 acre land … Now the twin towers have been demolished, we will submit a plan to develop a group housing project on the 2 acre land which is owned by the company,” he told PTI. This might be a future attempt to make up for the 500 crore lost but let’s simply hope they’re isn’t a need for another explosion.
