In today’s day, no conversation is private. Gossiping on a group chat or on person chats is pretty normal, isn’t it?
Anyone can take a screenshot or leak your conversation with SOLID proof, but It doesn’t seem all that serious, does it? And to a degree, it really isn’t.
But this one 11-year-old girl took things to a dark turn, and here’s why.
THE SCHOOL FIGHT
It was June 1st, 2004, and everyone at Okubo Elementary School expected it to be a pretty typical day. But sometimes, life doesn’t go the way you want.
Our victim, a.k.a Satomi Mitarai, 11 years old, was a classmate of our killer a.k.a “Girl A” (her actual name is not disclosed), but they got in a fight. And instead of having a “normal girl fight,” Girl A took this on a different level.
SHE WENT LOOKING FOR BLOOD
It was lunchtime, and Mitarai went to an empty classroom for lunch, but she didn’t know what was waiting for her.
After lunch, Girl A came back to the classroom with blood on her clothes. One of the teachers found Mitarai ‘s body in a pool of blood.
Mitarai was dead.
Girl A killed her by slitting her throat and arm with a box cutter and was taken into custody, where she confessed her deeds. She stayed there the whole night crying and refusing to eat. Later on, she said that she didn’t plan to kill Mitarai.
THE REASON FOR THE BRUTAL MURDER
She later continued and told about her fight with Mitarai.
Apparently, Mitarai left some messages about Girl A, and she claimed that Miratai commented on her weight.
Akio Mori, a professor in the Humanities and Sciences division of Nihon University in Japan, proposed his theory in 2002 called “Game Brain,” which talks about how a game affects the human brain.
He used this case to justify his theory which the public has criticized. It was said the she was a fan of this one death-themed animation called “Red Room.” She has also read a controversial novel and the film based on it, all about young students fighting to the death.
THE VERDICT
Putting aside her young age because of the severity of the crime on September 15th, 2004, the Japanese Family Court decided to send Girl A to a reformatory in Tochigi Prefecture.
Record original sentence for two years but was extended by another two years in September 2006 due to a psychological evaluation. She was diagnosed with Asperger Syndrome (a developmental disorder that affects the patients communicating and socializing abilities).
Well, this wasn’t all. Debates and discussions were going on whether the age of criminal responsibility should be reduced again. The people were at war. Many spoke in favor of Girl A, while others just hated her with a passion.
The famous Japanese website 2channel posted many memes on Girl A. She was also nicknamed Nevada-tan by the public. They found a picture of her wearing a University of Nevada sweatshirt.
Well, such crimes do shake you up, don’t they! Even some very trivial things can trigger such responses. So, maybe think twice about making fun of someone next time!
