One of the most colourful characters in British politics, Boris Johnson was forced to resign on Thursday after more than 50 of his MP’s resigned.

Date:

Why do people hate Boris Johnson?

In 2019, Boris Johnson got elected as the prime minister of UK after a landslide victory, but he soon became one of the most resented people in Britain. It went as far as his own politicians wanting him to resign after his latest debacle.

Boris Johnson has harmed his own reputation several times since his PM-ship began getting involved in multiple scandals which began with the Brexit crisis back in 2020. The UK government under Boris Johnson had left the EU on 31st January,2020. This resulted in a reduction of the UK GDP by 1.5% and an increase in inflation rates. Johnson further tried to change the law for himself when he asked the Queen to shutdown Parliament for five weeks.

Another one of Boris’s famous scandal was when he hosted parties at Downing Street during the peak of Covid lockdowns.

Immediate cause of the downfall of Johnson-

A massive wave of resignations of MP’s hit after Boris Johnson messed up again. Boris had appointed Chris Pitcher into the government even after knowing there were allegations of sexual misconduct against him.

Chris Pincher was recently accused of groping two men after getting drunk. This didn’t sit well with a lot of the officials of the government and on Tuesday Chancellor Rishi Sunak and Health Secretary Sajid Javid handed in their resignations minutes within each other. On Wednesday Boris Johnson announced that he had no intention to resign as the Prime Minister given his ‘colossal mandate’ of voters in 2019 elections. On Thursday more than 50 of his MP’s resigned and Boris Johnson was forced to do so to.

What everyone thinks about Boris’ resignation?

On Thursday, boris johnson had tweeted regarding his resignation.

A number or people including opposition leader Sir Keir Starmer and first minister of Scotland Nicola Sturgeon responded that it was good news for the country but Boris Johnson should have resigned long ago. It is needless to say the entire UK had been waiting for this day since a long time.

Rishi Sunak, former Chancellor

Rishi Sunak the former Chancellor of The Exchequer was one of the first people to resign after Boris Johnson’s debacle. After the Prime Minister’s resignation Rishi along with many other members of the government stood up for the place of the new Prime Minister. Rishi is a British Indian former cabinet minister and is leading the race to replace Boris. Some people think Rishi had been plotting against Johnson since a long time after his resignation and a ‘dirty dossier’ criticizing him has been floating around. The memo mentions his wife’s non domicile tax status and more criticisms about him.

Who will replace Boris Johnson?

Even though Boris Johnson has resigned due to pressure he will continue to be the interim president until the Conservative party elects a new leader. A number of candidates have given their name to replace Boris Johnson but currently Rishi Sunak, Liz Truss and Sajid Javid are the top contenders.

The new Prime Minister of UK will have to face some struggles after Boris Johnson leaves the country in shambles with massive inflation rates.
