At National Coming Out Day, DC Comics announced that next month’s issue of the comics would see Jon coming out as bisexual!!
Jon, the son of Kal-el and Lois, has taken over the mantel of superman and has been seen tackling some serious issues like climate change, school shootings and deportation.
In an earlier issue, Jon is seen striking a friendship with a pink-haired cute reporter. Reports state that in the next month’s issue, superman and jay(the reporter) will share a romantic moment after superman “mentally and physically burns out from trying to save everyone that he can”
Images and reports show that they will share a kiss!!
Tom Taylor, the writer of the series, says, “It struck me that it would be a real missed opportunity if we replaced Clark Kent with another straight white saviour,”
He also states, “There’s been a real shift over the last few years – ten years ago, five years ago this would have been more difficult, but I think things have shifted in a really welcome way.”
The reaction to the news has been overwhelmingly positive. Finally, everyone can see themselves in superman. They can resonate with the character.
People can be seen getting very emotional about this huge news. Now, they can see themselves in literally the most powerful superhero in the comics.
It’s not the first time DC Comics has had queer characters, but it is the first time it is one of the very main characters.
DC comics is almost synonymous with superman, and now with superman coming out as bisexual, people all around the globe feel represented.
They aren’t getting queer baited by large corporations anymore.
“It’s so good to finally be represented by a MAIN character in such a huge corporation like DC”, a comic fan says.
