India has accepted the invitation from Russia to take part in a face-to-face talk with the new government of Afghanistan for the first time since the change in the regime of the country. The event is scheduled for October 20 this year and in Moscow.
“We have received an invitation for the Moscow format meeting on Afghanistan on October 20. We will be participating in it.”
-spokesperson for the external affairs ministry, Arindam Bagchi.
The MEA (Ministry of External Affairs) most probably will be sending an officer at the joint-secretary level for the meeting. Zamir Kabulov, Vladimir Putin’s special representative on Afghanistan, had said that Moscow had invited representatives of the Taliban to the international talks on Afghanistan on October 20.
Earlier on October 12 this year, a G 20 summit on Afghanistan was held to help the country from the unfortunate humanitarian crisis following the Taliban takeover and the change of regime in the country. Earlier, India had questioned the lack of inclusivity by the Taliban and was also seen raising concerns over the rights exercised there and the protection of Human Rights and Rights of Minorities, women, and children.
Under best circumstances, India will join Russia in Moscow next week for talks with the Taliban, and both parties will come to an agreeable conclusion.
