GRETA THUNBERG BLASTS GLOBAL LEADERS AT THE GLASGOW PROTEST

Date:

Greta Thunberg, along with numerous youth leaders and activists, has vehemently opposed the slow and lethargic plans brought forward by the leaders at the COP26 summit.

Climate activists believe that COP26 is just a carrot on a stick to satisfy the people without any REAL reform. They are just making empty promises with absolutely NO ACCOUNTABILITY factor.

“There has to be an accountability factor, because otherwise, countries can pledge anything and can promise anything,” says Dr. Deborah Brosnan.

This is only one of the many problems with this summit.

Due to the sheer largeness of the summit (197 parties), it is very difficult to reach agreements and efficiently negotiate the goals.

The aim of the summit was to cut greenhouse gas emissions significantly and reduce the carbon footprint. All this was to keep the rise in global temperature to 1.5 degrees celsius.

However, with the pace of work being done, it seems very difficult to reach this goal.

GRETA THUNBERG’S SPEECH

There was a lot of anger at the Glasgow protest, with youth activists protesting passionately against the inaction of COP26.

Greta Thunberg gave a highly impacting speech at the protest, which covered the protester’s main demands.

Greta Thunberg showed no mercy in her attack on the global leaders for their twisted priorities and wrong agendas.

She said, “many are starting to ask themselves, what will it take for the people in power to wake up. But lets be clear they are already awake, they know exaclt what they are doing.”

She continued saying, “this is no longer a climate conference, this is now a global north greenwash festival,” in relation to the empty promises and great inaction shown by the great leaders.

She also says, “this is a two week long celebration of business as usual and blah blah blah.”

“the voices of the future generations are drowning in their green washed and empty words and promises.”

She continues by saying,” the question we now need to ask ourselves is what we’re fighting for, are we fighting to save ourselves and the living planet or are we fighting to maintain business as usual.”

She proposes that “to stay below the target set for the paris agreement and thereby minimizing the risk of setting of irreversible chain reactions beyond human control, we need immediate drastic annual cuts unlike anything we’ve ever seen, and as we dont have the technological solutions that will do anything even close to that. That means we will have to fundamentally change our society.”

“Our leaders are not leading. This is what leadership looks like,” she added, gesturing to the crowd.

We hope that global leaders and people in power take serious actions to stop climate change and save present and future generations from a scary future.
