Our lives are full of myths. Some have a scientific basis, while some don’t. so we bring to you the collection of 10 myths you probably thought were true
Myth 10: ANTIBIOTICS HELP GET BETTER DURING COLD
This is FALSE.
Antibiotics, as the name suggests, act upon the biotic components causing the illness. A virus generally causes cold, and viruses are a connecting bridge between the abiotic and biotic factors. Hence antibiotics are useless against viruses.
Antibiotics are given as to prevent any further infection of bacteria as during cold, our immune system is pretty weak, and any bacteria or biotic agent might penetrate through the defense system of our body.
Myth 9: THE SUPPRESSOR OR SILENCER MAKES A PISTOL COMPLETELY SILENT
The answer is NO.
It might help reduce the sound of the shot fired, but it wouldn’t wholly silence the gun.
Myth 8: IT IS POSSIBLE TO CONVERSE DURING A PARACHUTE JUMP
In numerous action films, we see the actors conversing with each other WHILE they are falling at a very high speed, but according to science, it is almost impossible to talk or converse during a parachute jump without some tech.
You can speak, but it’s just that your fellow companion might not be able to hear you talk due to the high speed of wind which distorts the sound (unless you use a sound transmitter system such as a mic and headphones).
Myth 7: FATS ARE BAD FOR HEALTH
It is not true as fats are required by your body, and not all fats are bad. There are good fats like unsaturated fats. These can be found in cod liver oil and are healthy. They help normalize metabolic activity and hormonal processes. In fact, They might help reduce the risk of Type II diabetes.
So, don’t feel too guilty the next time you double in on some peanut butter, because after all, your body does need it!
Myth 6: GRAVITY DOESN’T AFFECT LIGHT.
YES, it does. Exciting right, but gravity is a type of force, and Gravitational Force is directly proportional to Energy + Momentum. And light has both wave and particle nature, and hence it has both energy (energy of photons) and momentum (given by P = E/C).
Therefore gravity does, in fact, affect light!
Myth 5: YOU CAN PULL THE PIN ON THE GRENADE WITH YOUR TEETH
THIS IS FALSE.
When trying, you might end up losing all your teeth and the pin untouched. Moreover, the standard grenade needs about 3-5 kg of force to remove its pin, making it almost impossible to pull it off with your teeth.
So, the scenes in the movies aren’t always true!
Myth 4: DEPRESSION IS CAUSED BY A CERTAIN REASON LIKE A BAD INCIDENT OF THE PAST
This is NOT TRUE. Sometimes depression is caused by very random and unusual reasons. And sometimes, depression can be caused without a specific reason or simply without reason. So, think twice before asking WHY someone is depressed when they have everything.
You can read an article about depression on our page, which might give you a better insight into this.
Myth 3: DID THE SALEM WITCH TRIALS BURN THE PEOPLE AT STAKE
This is undoubtedly FALSE. Records show that most of the accused witches actually died while being held captive due to starvation and diseases.

Myth 2: DID (THOMAS) EDISON REALLY INVENT THE LIGHT BULB
The light bulb was discovered a long time ago, but Thomas improvised on it to keep it running in a loop.
He just found a way to keep the bulb running at all times. Edison’s model improvised on the filament, the vacuum seal and had a lower voltage than the others at the time. So, this model was a marketable product that could last for hours. Today the bulbs can run for years.
Myth 1: HUMANS EVOLVED FROM APES
This is false.
Hardcore evolutionary critics confirm the fact that humans have not evolved from apes. Humans and the apes have a common ancestor, which is otherwise called “the missing link.” Humans did evolve from something that was more ape-like rather than human-like.
Humans are related to apes but have no relation in evolving from apes. It’s just that the apes and humans share a common ancestor, which resembled more to the apes.
